Dark and brutual

The Poison Of Fame is becoming dark and brutual as I get further into it. I’ve introduced a new character. The character’s name is DD. I was thinking the DD stands as a homage for David Duchovny

The lead character is named Ava Graham. I based her very loosely on Lana Zane. Unlike the other writers/artists, I wasn’t interested in plopping Lana Zane in a crime comic and then get sued for defamation of character. I couldn’t even afford Lana’s laundry bills, lol.

I’ve taken some element from Scarlet where Ava is narrating her story with a mix of 4th wall breaking and narration boxes. But, my story isn’t so ambitious as Bendis and Maleev’s Scarlet. It’s as I said, dark and brutal.

Poison of Fame is ending up longer than any comic script I have written before. I think I’m finally becoming confident in my scriptwriting ability to where I know how and what I want from my story.

I may have snagged another artist and his partner who he hasn’t introduced yet for my crime comic called Crooked Little Town. It’s a story about a dying man whose condition has made him cynical and nihilhistic. He vents his frustration of being afflicted with cancer on women, killing them with a gun. The lead detective Paris Quinlan and his partner Alfred Winslow try to track him down before any more murders are committed, but learn he maybe suicidal and is trying to provoke a violent end. By the end of the story, the dying man kills a boy and holds the mother hostage. Coming at a stand off with police. He lets the mom go, and commits suicide.

Ideas

If one was to look through the kaledioscope of ideas. They would see multitudes of colors spanning several directions. Never intersecting, but always reaching skyward. I find looking for the right idea. The right story to tell reflects on oneself by reading as much as possible, and yet often ideas are repeated. So, how does originality assert itself?

I feel originality comes from the words, and the style, and technique of the one who tells the story. Sure, the writer can be inspired, can mold himself after his idols. But, in his own voice and his own way — he can tell a story that is worth telling.

Take Herbert George Wells for instance, he was lower class man like myself. Yet, he read and read, and read non-stop. Building a foundation of vivid imagination and creativity that dwelled with in his heart. He used that creativity — that imagination to create the Science Fiction genre.

I don’t doubt myself or any other can like wise do the same. All we must do is believe. Believe whole heartily in the words we write, and always look forward to the future.

Working out the emotional baggage

I find listening to music and especially reading and writing therapeutic. I mostly like to read stories that have a lot of character drama weaved with life lessons, and other symbolic elements that make you look at life from another angle. That is one reason I read Orson Scott Card. I agree with some of his writing principles, but I reject others. I also reject his personal beliefs. But, his stories strike a chord with me. Such as the Ender’s Quartet, and the Alvin Maker Saga. Eminem is another talented artist. One whose music has helped me through tough times. His stories woven into his lyrics remind a bit of problems I have had in the past. I have grown a lot since then, but I still listen to his music because it feels like thearpy.

When I write, I always try to challenge myself. Vent my anger, or whatever I am feeling in a constructive way. Sometimes, the emotions I am feeling is too strong to channel. Other times, I find a great harmony of words which to convey to my future collaborators on the projects I have written in advance.

Today, I wrote some scenes I felt were powerful. I had wanted to add more detail, but held back because the detail involved medical practice. I may revise it and use guess work. So, that I hold nothing back, or I may leave it as is.

Either way, I am doing what I enjoy.

The Poison

Finished another four pages of the Poison Of Fame. I’m not sure how long it will be. My comics are usually no longer than forty some pages. I’m kinda bummed that my handbook contribution to the Rook Volume 5 got axed. But, at least I got paid for it.

I’ve become visibly frustrated with the Ender’s quartet. I feel Xenocide went on too long and while I liked the story of Gloriusly Bright. I can’t help, but feel that Xenocide was padded a little too much. However, I intend to finish the series as I have thoroughly enjoyed it despite this feeling.

Hate yourself

One thing I have learned in all this time writing is you have to hate yourself enough to motivate you to become better. To drive you to prove yourself to yourself. If you don’t have that, then everything you have done is in vain. Every one has to have enough hate in them, enough doubt that they push themselves further than the limitations they set for themselves.

Got seven pages done on Jude’s rewrite taking me up to page 33. I think I will be finished with it sooner rather than later. But, I will be refining it a few more times before I search for an artsist to draw a few pages.
